I'm still here...

(Bo (Maine Coon) a year ago...just posted cause he is so handsome!)
Sorry I've been MIA for a few days, yep I'm still alive and kicking...kinda... Today has been an absolutely beautiful day..sunny and 74 degrees! But now the rain has moved in...heavy rainfall expect beginning tonight and all day tomorrow. Blah.
We had a wonderful time during Spring Break...movies, out to eat, horses, calves, bowling! Now that its over - I feel a little blah. Leah learned how to drive the tractor and feed the cows, and had a great time. Of course the boys were jealous that she spun a bail off the tractor before they ever got to.
I had gone to the doctor a few weeks ago about my back and began PT last Tuesday. I was told 12 years ago when I hurt my back after picking up my daughter, that I had a degenerative vertebrae and a bulging disc....well my back has gone out on me several times, about 2 or 3 times a year..sometimes its been more. You know - the kind you cant get up or move for a day or so??? Yeah that kind.
When I went to PT to get evaluated I got some shocking news I didn't expect...I was told I have "a significant case of scoliosis". WHAT!? No way! They told me I was probably misdiagnosed all this time and that the vertebrae was damaged due to the scoliosis. The bad news is that they cant fix it, only alleviate the pain. They are putting me in traction 2x a week and on a rolling bed...that is most awesome..it massages your back, with electrodes and a heating pad.
I need this like I need a hole in the head. Oh well, nothing I can do about it, wont change anything. Pt will hopefully help though.
On a sadder note, Gin had to put Cooper, her sweet little dog, down this morning. She had a genetic back problem that most little dogs that are long have. She was a dachshund. Her back went out on her about 2 months ago...and she has been on cortisone pills since. But last night she basically was paralyzed. The doc said there was nothing to do and she was not going to get better. Poor Gin is upset as expected and will really miss her badly.
Farm Report:
calf count 89.
Laid fertilizer on wheat to prepare for planting.
This next picture is just one that I wanted to share.this is Josh, our farrier and his 4 year old Tenn Walking horse. She was a 2 year old at the time of this picture, which was taken during a riding clinic. The thing I loved most about this horse was her champagne color...a truly beautiful horse...she is now broke and for sale, registered and worth more than I could afford I'm sure...Oh..I did talk to Babe's owner, Larry, he isn't interested in selling right now but promised me when he does I'll be the first he'll call. Hoping that putting the bug in his ear that he'll decide he wants to money more than the horse...cross you fingers!

  1. Hope you start to feel better soon. My mom is having back troubles too...sounds very similar (PT 2-3x each week, traction, and has had 2 cortisone shots). But, it sounds like you've had a great spring break!

  3. Hi there,
Thought I would drop in for a while. I, too, have been having back problems.....and guess what they said? I have to S curves, twisted pelvis, neck vertebra and bulging disk. I'm going 2X per week for adjustments and the heated hydro dry therapy bed that feels wonderful! The doc said .....you had to have had a trauma to your back as a child! I said no, just hard work on the farm! Hay bales, carrying 10 gal. feed/water buckets and moving horses/calves when cast! This is what I get now! I know how you feel!
I'm sorry about the dog that had to be put down....sad. That horse is gorgeous! Who is Babe? I missed that post....registered horse you're interested in? Take care of yourself! Lu

  4. So sorry about the back. I have a degenrative lower back condition (but not the one you mention, mine is just wear and tear). I was given gentle exercises to do and after doing them for a year, every evening for ten minutes, I now find I can manage it fairly well. Sorry about the little dog too - always sad to have to put one's companion to sleep.

Hi Luanne! I posted tonight and put a link to the original post I did about Babe...she isnt registered but she is the love of my life...that champange horse in that pic is one I'd love to have, she is a beauty isnt she! Farm work has really been bad on my already bad back...but its worth all the pain...I may not say that when I'm old and grey!
Hi weaver..I too have some gentle exercises and I hope they help....you have given me some hope!!!!
