Peppers Mansion - The Hen House

Finally!!!!! Construction has begun on the Chicken Coop! After 3 years of dreaming Peppers mansion is being built! (Brangelina eat your heart out!) She is already talking about red gingham curtains and a chair on the porch (what porch I told her???? Crazy bird!) wind chimes, and she is trying to figure out what to put around her mansion that will attract more bugs. She is driving me nuts with all her plans! I can't blame her tho', I mean really coming from where she has been, a barn to a mansion? Really! She deserves to brag...and feel the chicken-joy she is feeling. She is begging me to help her pack (pack what???!!!!) running around like a chicken - uh never mind....I just let her squawk about and chatter happily telling all of her new friends. I havent yet told her how she is going to have to share the mansion with the new chicks yet...I doubt she'll mind, she'll just think they are her servants and maidens and put them right to work. Train them while they are young!
So this is Day 2 of Construction:
Day One: I nailed in a pole barn nail into the floor joist My Hammer welding-victory lifting-I'm the queen-ceremonial picture was really terrible cause as usual I was talking and wouldnt keep my mouth shut and just smile so - bummer - no good picture of the nail driving ceremony!
The Frame is filled in with rock, they added more rock after they finished nailing all the floor-joist together.
This is Al, he is one of the neighbors, who is a carpenter by trade, who is building Peppers Mansion.
So....to wrap it up...I'm excited as all get out! Even more than Pepper is! I mean really! I've been waiting for this day for over 3 years now.......no...over 30 years! I've ALWAYS wanted chickens! No farm is complete without chickens! There is no greater satisfaction than growing/raising your own food! NOW - there are the birds that will be permanent flock that stay for eggs, entertainment, and lovin' like Pepper gives us! Somewhere between 20 - 30 - less or more...all depends. Right now we have like 40 birds and will cull down to birds that are gentle and sweet and all get along. The others......in my and Mari's the freezer to feed us for the next year, then do start over again in the spring and hatch our own chicks to raise for that purpose. My plan is to sell eggs this spring...we also planted an acre of sweet corn...and hopefully tomatoes at the local farmers market....Really looking forward to it! Next year baby chicks in the spring! So The only thing I need are some Coop Names, none are coming to mind, gonna hang a sign on the door...Oh yeah I didnt even describe it did I? I guess I'll do that as it starts looking more like a building! So if you think of anything...let me know what sounds good to ya!
Peace out!

  1. I know how exciting the new chicken coop is. When we built ours a couple of years ago, I felt the same way! I like Pepper's decorating ideas.
I can't wait to see the finished building. It is going to look great.
and the name-"Pepper's Mansion' sounds like a good sign name to me!
    Have a great day.

  3. I'm loving watching it go up! It stormed last night and construction is on halt today...*frown* its not raining so I cant understand why and Pepper is letting me know her dislike too! If she had a big dislike button she would be pecking it all day! I cant wait to get all the birds in there and watch them all enjoy the grass and check it out for the first time!!!!

  8. Wow, that is going to be quite the coop! How exciting! My mom and I were just talking yesterday about how fun it would be to have chickens. We had them when I was a child, we inherited them with some property. I would love to collect fresh eggs again every day!
Thanks for you thoughtful comment on my goodbye post! It is a hard decision to make, but for now, it's the right one. I do hope to return to blogging again someday. I just need to accomplish some other things right now. Thank you for your support and I hope you'll stop in and visit my occasional updates! ;)

  9. That is great, I am still waiting for the hubby to get started on my chicken house. But with only 2 days out of the week to work on things it makes it hard to get to it. We have been working on our barn all year and hopefully in the next month we will have that done and on to the next project, a farm work is never done.

  10. Looks like that's gonna be one fancy hen house!! Beautiful workmanship. I'd like to have a few hens for personal eggs, but hubby says they're messy, and we don't have much unused space. How is King doing?

Thank you so much for your kind comment the other day...I really appreciate it.

  11. That's funny my husband and I were just researching what kind of chickens we would like to buy...and there are TONS of coop designs out there....many fancy ones! Thanks for stopping by and leaving such a nice comment. I will miss blogging but if I'm going to ride all these horses this summer as planned, there will be little time for it. I'm committed to getting them well underway now since we've had them at the trainer last year. We can put the rest of the miles on them ourselves. It will be a lot of hard work and my bottom is already sore! I'll get in shape though! Have fun with those animals and a nice summer! I'll stop in from time to time.

  12. We got chickens a couple of years ago and I love them, will always have them now! Our neighbor who built our coop for us made me a sign for over my door and he called it Teri's Bed and Breakfast. He said the chickens go there to bed at night and give you breakfast in the morning. I liked it.
